Frequently Asked Questions

How did Webbing the Islands start?

Webbing the Islands was first presented in April 2005 as part of Tasmania's International Arts Festival, Ten Days on the Island. It attracted participation from 64 school groups from 15 islands and four non-island regions: 39 were Tasmanian, five from other Australian states and 20 from overseas. These groups shared their individual and team work on eight projects related to climate change, environment, language and culture.

How is it supported?

In July 2005, the University of Tasmania and the Tasmanian Department of Education provided interim funding to support the team as we consolidated and refined our vision and mission. We have also been privileged to receive support from the Ian Potter Foundation to develop the Units of Learning and from the Tasmanian Community Fund to take Webbing the Islands to remote schools around our beautiful island home. Webbing the Islands is now supported by the University of Tasmania's Community Place and Change theme Area.

How can I support Webbing the Islands?

We are always looking to form partnerships with educational, community, artistic and scientific organisations with a keen interest in, and commitment to, islands. For more information please contact us.

Is Webbing the Islands a secure site?

Yes. We pride ourselves on ensuring that Webbing the Islands is a fully moderated site. You can look at the resources we provide and we are happy to provide the means by which your own work, activities, ideas and events are shared and promoted.
