About Webbing the Islands
Something intriguing for anyone who loves islands …
Our Vision:
By 2015, Webbing the Islands will be a leading international, intergenerational program that provides exciting and engaging opportunities for people around the world to connect, share, discuss, debate, and create - in celebration of island lives, cultures and environments. Our History:
Webbing the Islands was originally presented as part of Tasmania’s International Arts Festival, Ten Days on the Island in May 2005. Its aim was - and remains - to engage people in interesting discussions and activities about islands across the arts, social sciences and sciences, and across the globe.
In July 2005, Webbing the Islands morphed to become a unique partnership between the University of Tasmania and the Department of Education Tasmania. During the first year of that partnership it was generously supported by the Ian Potter Foundation and the Tasmanian Community Fund. It is now a major community engagement program of the University of Tasmania's Community, Place and Change Theme Area.
